The Function for Unity

Apr 1, 2026    Derek Melton

Consider the warning:

I.              DANGERS TO UNITY.

There are three works of the flesh mentioned that must be avoided at all cost. These vices will destroy a faithful church. Like a disease, these can creep in unnoticed. They begin to incubate and then demonstrate. That is why Paul calls us to “put them to death by the Spirit!” (Rom. 8:13)

To preserve unity, we must crucify:

(a.)       Selfishness.

(b.)       Vain glory.

(c.)        Personal interests.

Consider the exhortation:

II.            DILIGENCE TOWARDS UNITY.

To preserve unity, we must cultivate:

(a.)       Humility of mind.

(b.)       Consider others as more important.

(c.)        Concern yourself with the interests of others.

(d.)       Aim to think like Jesus Christ.
